The Certificate in Midwifery Acupuncture (Obstetrics) programme is a series of six two-day workshops on using acupuncture during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Each day includes TCM theory with sessions of practical acupuncture treatment. A total of forty elective education points have been awarded to this programme by the New Zealand Midwifery Council.

Pain relief and problems during labour, including cervical lip, failure to progress and retained placenta

Musculoskeletal problems including back pain and symphysis pubis pain

The programme is taught by Debra Betts who is an acupuncturist from Wellington with a private practice focused on pregnancy-related issues. Debra has been a teacher of TCM for over 10 years. She also lectures overseas on the use of acupuncture in obstetrics. She began running courses specifically designed for midwives in 1999.
